Heigh-ho, Heigh-ho

It's back to work I go.  Today is my first day back at work following a period of absence from work of about 8 months as a result of the diagnosis and treatment for a Stage 2 glioma.  As I sit typing this in a pre-caffeinated state it feels a tough thing to do, even though I am only going in for the afternoon.

It is a phased return with just three afternoons this week and then a steady increase in hours over the forthcoming month. I suppose my concern is that where I work is like a huge black-hole which sucks everybody into it and is hard to escape from.

Gladys is taking me into work and picking me up in the early stages so that should give me an escape!

I did a full 'kit inspection' yesterday.  I have put on a little weight so bought a couple of new shirts to avoid excess button-strain around the midriff, but I'm sure being active again will deal with that. Suits still fit,  shoes are shiny,  bag and identity pass are ready to go.

The days of afternoons of half-dozing on the settee,  watching 'Friends' and eating cheesy dip are shortly coming to an end and it's back to the grind of everyday living.  I am just not used to getting up at 6am and standing at a bus stop in the freezing cold!

Incidentally, it still seems as cold now as when I went off sick last year, with no respite during that time, but I guess that's the dear old North-East of England!

Anyway, one day at a time.  I shall take it steady and in small steps, so wish me luck!

Just a point of interest about the title of this post - the spelling and usage of the phrase has been hotly debated. I have gone for the Seven Dwarves version!
